This guide shows how to connect to ESXi server from a client machine after installing ESXi, and you manage the host entirely from a web browser on a client machine — no vCenter needed. you manage it entirely from a web browser on a client machine — no vCenter needed. The built-in ESXi Host Client is a full HTML5 interface for hosts, VMs, storage and networking. Getting to it is simple once you know what to expect.

01constructionStep 1: Find the Host’s IP
The DCUI on the server’s screen shows the management IP after installation (see the ESXi installation guide). If you set a static address during configuration, use that. Write it down or create a DNS record for the host.
02downloadStep 2: Connect to ESXi Server in a Browser
From your workstation, open a modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) and go to https://<esxi-ip>. Your browser will warn about the self-signed certificate — this is normal for a fresh host; accept the exception for lab use. Log in with the root account and the password you set during installation. To connect to ESXi server remotely, the browser is the only tool you need.
03usbWhat You Can Do from the Host Client
- Create and manage virtual machines and their snapshots
- Browse datastores and upload ISOs
- Manage virtual networking and the management IP
- Monitor CPU, memory and storage performance in real time
- Enable SSH and the ESXi shell under Host → Manage → Services when you need the command line
04terminalTroubleshooting Access
- Page will not load: check the management network settings in the DCUI (Configure Management Network) and confirm your client is on a reachable network
- Login rejected: the root password is case-sensitive; if it is lost, it must be reset from the host console
- Slow console of VMs: that is normal over the HTML5 console; install VMware Tools in guests and use SSH/RDP instead
When you later add vCenter Server, you keep this same interface style but manage every host from one place.

With the host reachable, add VMware Tools to your guests next. Then snapshots and clean shutdowns work properly.
